“When fear takes over, communication stops and suspicion builds. That’s why Inside Islam is such an important film, and why the extensive surveys conducted by the Gallup organization are so worthwhile.” - Former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright
Inside Islam: What a Billion Muslims Really Think premiered in Washington, DC on June 3rd and brought together 650 people from policy circles, government, think tanks, interfaith groups, and numerous other civic leaders. Over 70 groups who attended the premiere as diverse as the State Department, the Army, numerous university professors and local churches have contacted UPF and requested private screenings with guided dialogue/discussion.
As Dr. Albright points out in the keynote address, the film challenges the “hate us for our freedom” notion. President Obama in his speech in Cairo, Egypt on June 4, 2009 (the day after Inside Islam premiered) proposed a new, constructive approach to Muslim engagement. This film provides substantiation for such a course. The film reveals data showing that politics, more than fundamental religious differences, are causing tensions that have led to the dangerous world we all inhabit.
